Khalid Hasan

Managing Attorney

Khalid graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He earned his Juris Doctorate from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, with a certificate in Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution.* As a law student, Khalid completed an externship for the Honorable Judge Michael R. Panter (Ret.) in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Law Division.

As the oldest child to immigrant entrepreneurs, Khalid spent his childhood working alongside his family to operate various small businesses. During this time, he learned the importance of hard work, community, and caring for other’s needs. With these principles in mind, Khalid started the law firm with a client-centric focus. He believes that every client should have access to an ally during their legal matter that is supportive, honest, accessible, and responsive. Khalid’s philosophy and approach to representing clients is to treat every client like the only client.

Before starting Kasan Law, Khalid practiced in the areas of personal injury, civil rights, police brutality, and civil litigation. As a trial lawyer, he represented clients in various complex cases. He gained diverse legal and litigation experience in both Illinois state and federal court. Khalid has successfully recovered millions of dollars for his clients. In 2019, Khalid successfully handled an appeal before the Appellate Court of Illinois, Third District.

In Doe 1 v. Cicero School District 99, Khalid second chaired a jury trial and successfully secured a $2.5 million jury verdict for a client that was sexually abused by her kindergarten teacher. The $2.5 million verdict was included in the 2019 list of Top 50 Verdicts in Illinois, published by Top Verdict. TopVerdict.com lists the largest verdicts, settlements, and arbitration awards secured by attorneys throughout Illinois during the 2019 calendar year.

In 2018, Khalid was named to the National Trial Lawyers “Top 40 Attorneys under 40” list. In 2019, 2020, and 2021, Khalid was recognized as a Rising Star by Illinois Super Lawyers, an honor bestowed upon less than 2.5% of all Illinois attorneys under the age of 40. Khalid was included in the 2021 edition of the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch for Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs.

Khalid has written multiple publications, in the Illinois Bar Journal, regarding the use of social media evidence in the courtroom and its impact on litigation. He frequently presents on the topics of using social media and electronic evidence at trial, obtaining social media and electronic evidence during discovery, and the impact of social media evidence on litigation.

Outside the courtroom, Khalid participates in various professional and charitable organizations. He volunteers as a trial coach for the Niles West High School Mock Trial Team. He is an active member on the Junior Executive Board for the Chicago Lighthouse, an organization serving the blind, visually impaired, and disabled.
